Smith Family Racing was established in 1985 with Chuck Smith Jr. as its original driver, competing on the dirt ovals of Colorado National Speedway and Rocky Mountain Speedway until his retirement at the end of the 1997 season.

Today, the team’s legacy continues with third-generation drivers Jacob and Jordon Smith behind the wheel of the #13s and #89 Modifieds. In 2023, the next chapter began with fourth-generation driver Nora Smith joining the team in the Bandit Bandolero #29. In 2025, Addie Smith will further carry on the tradition as the driver of the #8 Bandit Bandolero.
